The engine stalls when climbing the hill. How can I make sure that even at 1 speed I climb uphill and the engine does not stall?

There are a few factors involved in that situation:

  • Hill slope. Some vehicles simply cannot climb slopes beyond certain degree. Check out the actual slope in the Telemetry, and the specifications for the vehicle.
  • Engine torque/power. The engine may be providing insufficient torque to push the vehicle upwards.
  • Gear Ratio. The actual torque that reaches the wheels is multiplied by the ratio of the current gear. Increasing the ratio increases the torque by reducing the speed.
  • Differential Ratio (Final Ratio). The ratio in the differential multiplies the gear ratio, so it multiplies the torque reaching the wheels in all the gears. Increasing the differential ratio increases the torque by reducing the speed further.
  • Tire Friction / Ground Material Grip. In some situations, the wheels should just slide instead of causing the engine to stall. This is related to the combination of tire friction and ground grip. If these are too high (i.e. asphalt on competition tires), and the slope is too pronounced, then it's more likely that the engine stalls than the tires just slipping.
